Sept. 11, 2001 was a tragic day in American history that scarred the lives of many people. This significant moment in history inspired Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.” I had read Foer’s other best seller “Everything is Illuminated”, and had also heard great things about this novel so I decided to give this book a go.

The novel revolves around a boy, Oskar, whose father died in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. After finding one of his father’s belongings in his room, Oskar sets off on a journey to find closure about his father’s passing. Oskar’s adventure is filled with heartbreak, love, happiness, tragedy, and an unexpected ending.

This book was a great read for me and although it did not live up to Foer’s other best seller, the novel was interesting and I enjoyed every chapter. The novel is exceptionally moving and anyone wanting to explore what it was like for someone to be directly affected by 9/11 should consider this novel for a great read.
