Upcoming adventures in Austin
October 22, 2014
The quirky city of Austin is host to many different exciting events. Over the next month fellow Austinites should mark their calendars for the upcoming local events taking place. Ranging from horror, film, fitness and more, there is sure to be something that everyone will be antsy to attend.
House of Torment, which is currently open from now until Halloween, is the scariest attraction taking place this season. Let this be a  formal warning, this is not your ordinary haunted house. This nationally acclaimed haunted house is in no way for the faint of heart. As you walk through you will be faced with demons, chainsaws, blood, monsters and an abundance of high tech technology that brings the fear to a whole new level. If you chicken out during the haunted house your face will be posted on the wall of shame alongside 10,000 other scaredy cats, so be prepared to endure through the torment.
For those looking forward to a less terrifying and more lighthearted activity, then stop by the 21st Annual Austin Film Festival. For $65 you will gain viewing access to all the films being screened at the festival from Oct.22-23. The festival offers hundreds of creative ammeature showings of self made films and documentries. Opening night will be the premiere of the highly anticipated film, The Humbling  by Barry Levinson’s. The Festival is a hub for creative souls and will definitely make for an exciting evening for those who attend.
In November, the annual Thundercloud Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5k is a hot event in Austin. Starting at the Long Center runners take their mark, even some dressed up as turkeys, and race through downtown Austin. This event has grown up to 20,000 participants who get wildly excited about helping the community. 100 percent of the proceeds go to Caritas of Austin, which helps the working poor and helps those to become self sufficient. This run is something incredibly fun that your whole family can enjoy while simultaneously helping those in need.
