The Legacies and their Booster Club began selling the supplies needed to make a homecoming mum in the fall of 2009. The Legacy Booster Club started to sell the materials in order to get involved in school spirit and to promote the first homecoming at Vandegrift. Since the event was new to many students, the Legacies wanted to help their fellow classmates get into the school spirit. After the fifth year, it became an annual tradition with the activities, colors and spirit of Vandegrift.
“We strive to be competitive and make it easy for our students to show their spirit at homecoming,” VHS Legacies Booster Club President Michele Roach said.
The Legacies Booster Club helps raise the money needed for the Legacies to attend their competitions and contests throughout the year. Selling the homecoming mum materials is one of the ways that the Booster Club raises money for the Legacies.
“Without the Booster Club, I don’t know what we would do,” sophomore Legacy Darby Wright said.
The Legacies will be selling the materials in the cafeteria from Sept. 30 – Oct. 3, Oct. 7 – Oct. 10, and Oct. 14 – Oct. 16 from 4-6:30pm. The prices vary for each accessory, and for 10 extra dollars the Legacies can assemble your selection for you.
“I love selling the mums. It’s fun to do and we make a good profit,” sophomore Legacy Brogan Edwards said.
