The swim team most recently competed in the Killeen meet and both boys and girls placed first.
The swim team also competed at the TICSA meet Nov. 31-Dec. 1. The girls placed sixth out of 30 and the boys placed 10th out of 42 teams.
“We went to TISCA last year. We only had about 13 kids go to this meet and this year we have a little more then 20,” sophomore Maddie Iberham said.
Members of the swim team had to individually qualify for TISCA by getting a certain time in their event. To prepare for this meet many swimmers swim in the morning for the school team and in the afternoon for a club team, such as Nitro.
“Swim team is hard work. Most people on the team do swim team in the morning and club after school,” sophomore Amanda Burton said.
All of this is in preparation for the state swim meet. Like TISCA, members must individually qualify for the state meet. This year the swim team’s goal is for all of the swim relays to place in state and for the swim team to get third overall.
“Our team is kicking butt this year. Me, Maddie Ibrahim, Sydney Sanders and Sammi Bassman are on 200IM relay and are expected to make State this year,” sophomore Lindsey Thompson said.
This year, the swim team has been undefeated in 4A and at Round Rock Swim Meet. They beat all 5A teams. Swim team member junior Jonathan Broughton attributes this to teamwork and hard work.
“This year we have really gotten stronger as a team,” Broughton said.
