Last week when I finally broke down to visit the new-ish Hill Country Tacos in the Jack Brown Cleaners parking lot, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the food, but the stand itself.
Although I am usually strictly a Rudy’s breakfast taco girl, I decided to try out one of the many local food trailers in our area to see what all the fuss was about. The food trailer business seems to be growing, and the Voice is going to make an effort to try out one a week.
Hill Country Tacos is a convenient drive through, and for only $1.50 a taco, I might just have to stop by more often. When I pulled in there was no line, and the service was quick. They offer a number of juices and sodas along with the freshly made variety of taco options.
The menu is full of options to custom make a taco, or you can order the “Taco Loco,” their specialty. The Taco Loco is a tortilla stuffed with eggs, beans, cheese, bacon, potatoes and sausage- needless to say, it is huge. I ordered a taco loco, an egg and bacon and an egg and sausage taco.
When I took the first bite into my bacon and egg taco, I was delighted. The tortilla was fresh, the eggs were perfectly scrambled and the bacon was crispy, just how momma makes it.
Although I was not able to finish the other two, they were just as perfect. My taco was a perfect 8.5. The only problem with it was that Rudy’s tacos are a solid 10.
When it comes down to it, you will probably find me at Hill Country Tacos more often than Rudy’s in the mornings before school. The convenience and cost factors are going to keep this local food trailer up and running for a very long time.
