Varsity wrestling team dominates Vista Ridge

The boys varsity wrestling team competed last Wednesday, February 18th at 6:00pm against Vista Ridge High School. They won the dual 67-9 and celebrated senior night.
“I’m really proud of my teammates and their performance against Vista Ridge,” Sophomore James Clarkson said. “I was very happy to see the all seniors do so well, and be a part of their senior night.”
There are 14 members on the varsity team, including five seniors and two freshman.
“Being on the Varsity wrestling team as a freshman has been really fun, I have made lots of new friends through the team,” freshman Luke Sloan said. “The seniors are great at leading the team, they often lead stretches and get us pumped for the matches.”
Senior, Riley Jacobs is committed to wrestling at Columbia University next year.
“I’m really excited to continue my wrestling career at Columbia University next year, although I’m going to miss my teammates here“ senior Riley Jacobs said. “I’m really proud of how well the team worked this season, and I’m excited to see how the incoming seniors will lead the team next year.”
The wrestling team has been growing since 2009, and have increased their amount of wins every year.
“I’m extremely proud of the team’s performance against Vista Ridge, our biggest rival,” head coach, Paul Muck said. “It felt great to be able to dominate them 67-9. I’m looking forward to next season and I’m very confident that the incoming seniors will be excellent leaders.”
The wrestling team’s next match is tomorrow, January 25th against against Lake Travis and Glenn High School.
“It’s been really cool to see the wrestling program grow throughout the 3 years that I’ve been on the team, Junior Rob Troyer said. “I’m really sad that this season is coming to an end, although I’m look forward to next season and more victories.”
