Game, set, match! Current district champs and ranked number two in the state, Viper Tennis has been slamming their way through the fall season with no mercy. With an overall record of 11-2 and only losses to high school tennis powerhouses Lake Travis (10-9) and Westlake (10-6), the Viper Tennis team is in the midst of their best season yet.
“We’ve been doing pretty well this year. We’ve been working really hard and we have a lot still to come,” senior doubles player Maria Popov said.
With the regional tournament coming up on Oct. 26-27 and some tough matches against Bourne Champion and Alamo Heights ahead, the tennis team is motivated to take it all the way to the state championships.
“The team has had an outstanding season so far,” senior Revanth Medina said. “We have the chance to win the state title for Vandegrift this year, so that’s very exciting. We have been working hard and have been confident in our abilities. We will give it our all and see what happens.”
After going undefeated in districts, the team’s determination, confidence and spirit are at an all-time high. If the varsity players do well in the regional tournament next weekend in San Antonio, they will then continue to the state tournament in College Station on Nov. 2-3.
