Texas barbecue pizza (Karissa Gonzales)

Karissa Gonzales, Staff Reporter

When I was 14 and homeschooled, my dad taught me how to make a ton of delicious dishes and baked goods. Pizza was one of my favorite dishes to make! I was too impatient to make the dough from scratch to get that nice, crunchy yet fluffy crust. So I used an alternative that anyone can buy at their local grocery store to make a pizza in about 25 minutes. This is an easy, delicious snack for after school.

This is a Texas barbecue take on pizza– feel free to change up the toppings!

Servings: 9 square slices   Prep: 10 mins   Cook: 15 mins   Total: 25 mins

Ingredients:

  • 1 can Pillsbury pizza crust
  • 8 oz canned pineapple, sliced
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Bottle barbecue sauce
  • ¼ cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 3 slices cooked bacon, finely chopped

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 400℉ and line a baking sheet with foil
  • Prep/cut desired toppings while waiting for oven to preheat
  • Open Pillsbury pizza crust and unroll dough on a prep baking sheet. Form dough to desired thickness and shape
  • Pre-bake dough for 8 minutes
  • Take the dough out of the oven and let cool for a minute
  • Top dough with desired sauce and toppings
  • Place back in oven for an additional 6-8 minutes or until golden brown
  • Take pizza out of oven and let pizza rest for a few minutes before consuming

Voila, you’ve created a delicious pizza!
