All 8 seasons of Vampire Diaries are available to watch on Netflix

Finally, after a ton of binge watching and staying up late, I finally finished the show “Vampire Diaries” and let me just say, it’s such a great show. I was hooked at the start of season 1, and I highly recommend watching it. It is on Netflix with a total of eight seasons, and is based on the book series “The Vampire Diaries” by L.J. Smith. The Vampire Diaries also has two spinoff shows, “The Originals,” and “The Legacies,” which I am so excited about starting.

The show takes place in Mystic Falls, Virginia where vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures exist. The show follows a teenage girl named Elena Gilbert, who is still grieving over the loss of her parents from a tragic car accident, but must help her younger brother, Jermey Gilbert, get over their parents death as well. When she was visiting her parents grave and writing in her diary, she meets and falls in love with Stefan Salvatore, a well known vampire. They start having a relationship together until things get really complicated when Elena meets Stefan’s older brother, Damon Salvatore. Damon starts experiencing some feelings for Elena because Elena looks like someone from Damon’s past who ends up being Elena’s doppelganger. Elena soon starts experiencing some feelings for Damon as well, which is where the tension begins between Stefan, Damon and Elena as she won’t choose which Salvatore brother she wants to be with. But by the end of season 4, Elena finally decides who she likes more.

What I like about the show is all the suspense and tension that happens in each episode that will make you want to continue watching to see what happens. This is what I look for in a good TV show, and Vampire Diaries has that. I wanted to continue watching each episode until I figured out who Elena chooses, who gets turned into a vampire next, who gets killed by Damon, etc. So having all that suspension, tension, and cliff hangers made me want to continue watching the show so I can see what happens next.

Some of my favorite characters from the show have to be: Damon and Stefan (obviously), Bonnie Bennett, the witch and Elena’s best friend, Elena’s other best friend Caroline Forbes, Elena and Stefan’s doppelgangers, Kathrine Pierce and Silas, as well as Klaus one of the originals from Season 4. There is a huge debate on whether or not Elena is a likeable character and quite frankly I’m not a fan of her. She always had so many mental breakdowns and always had to be protected from either Damon or Stefan and couldn’t really take care of herself, which was always pretty annoying, so that’s why I didn’t like her.

One of the most well known debates from the TV show is being “Team Stefan” or “Team Damon” and which Salvatore brother is better off with Elena. After watching the show, I say that I am Team Damon. I think he’s a very funny character and everytime he speaks, it always ends up being something super funny. I would just start dying laughing because he’s so funny and has that way of making people laugh and appreciating him. I also think he’s good for Elena because he lets her take care of herself, but also protects her when needed and never gives up on her, even though he thinks he will never be good enough for her because of the type of person he is. In the first part of season 1, I was more Team Stefan than Team Damon just because I didn’t really like who Damon was in Season 1. I thought he was more of a bad person, but when he changed as the seasons went on for Elena, that’s when I started liking him.

Overall, I highly recommend watching Vampire Diaries. If you are a fan of supernatural themed TV shows, or drama shows, this is the show for you. The show has such good jump scares, however it is not a scary show. There are just scary moments that happen in the show that give that thrill of excitement and cause your heart to beat in excitement. The show will also cause some feelings and emotions to come out, like happy, sad and the feeling of wanting to cry. I promise you though, when you first watch it, you will instantly get hooked on it.
