Passengers Review
January 12, 2017
Ever since the trailer played in the theaters, months before the movie’s release, I was hooked. Space, romance, action, and mystery all rolled into one amazing film- plus starring two of my favorite actors? I’m in. And I am happy to announce that Passengers did not disappoint.
Set in the future, we are introduced to the Avalon, a ship headed toward Homestead II, a colony on a new planet. Aboard the ship are 5,000 passengers, ready to help colonize this new land and get away from the crowdedness of Earth. All 5,000 men and women are in a state of hibernation, waiting the 120 years it takes to reach their destination.
Two of these passengers, Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence), are mysteriously awoken 90 years early. As the two realize the gravity of their situation- and how they are doomed to spend the rest of their lives as the only two people awake- they begin to fall for each other. But they soon discover that their lives, and the lives of the thousands sleeping, are in eminent danger. And they are the only ones who can take on the perilous task of saving the Avalon.
The movie is fast-paced (though not too fast) and has plenty of dramatic moments. Both Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence deliver stunning performances, living up to their titles as my favorite stars. There is nothing negative I could possibly have to say about this silver screen masterpiece. (Other than- “GIVE ME MORE!”)
Overall, I’d give Passengers all 5 stars. Every aspect, from plot to CGI, was incredible. I was on the edge of my seat for all 116 minutes. I would recommend Passengers for anyone seeking the highest level of cinematic entertainment.
