Monica Geller, Chandler Bing, Rachel Green, Phoebe Buffay, Joey Tribbiani, Ross Geller. These are names you hear frequently in Friends. Friends takes place in New York City and goes through 10 years of a group of friends’ lives.
Monica, played by Courteney Cox, is a competitive neat freak with dreams of having her own restaurant. Chandler, played by Matthew Perry, is sarcastic and can quickly come up with a joke about his friends’ lives. Rachel, portrayed by Jennifer Aniston is the fashionista of the friend group who is just trying to adjust to the adult lifestyle. Phoebe, acted by Lisa Kudrow, is easy-going and adds to the humor of the group. Joey, played by Matt Leblanc, is the “ladies man” and an actor who isn’t too bright, but very loveable. Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer, is a paleontologist and nerd of the group.
In the show, the characters have many different relationships, and later in the series many surprises happen (but I won’t spoil those for you). I love how the writers don’t stick to the storyline where the characters have perfect lives; I think it makes the show even funnier than it already is.
My favorite character in the show is Chandler because of his sarcastic personality. He says some of my favorite lines in the series. In the first few seasons he seems dorky, but as I watched each season I fell in love with Perry’s character. He has a big heart and cares a lot about his friends. On the contrary, my least favorite character in the series was Ross. He is very whiny during each season of the show, and he never seemed to be able to settle down with one girlfriend. I think the writers of Friends could have done a better job with Schwimmer’s character.
Overall, I think Friends is a great sitcom. I fell in love with the characters, and even cried after watching the last episode of the series. In my opinion, if a show can make you cry, it’s a pretty good show. I loved how the show goes through the characters’ lives, because I was able to really get to know them. If you like sitcoms, Friends is a show you won’t want to pass up.
