Taylor Swift’s hot new album released
November 1, 2014
To say that I am a fan of Taylor Swift is a complete understatement. I have all of her albums, have attended two of her concerts, and know all the words to all her songs. When her much anticipated album 1989 was released on Sunday, I along with millions of other fans, were beyond thrilled.
Swift is a very versatile artist whose albums have ranged from country to pop. Her new songs sound slightly inspired from alternative artists such as Lorde and Lana Del Rey, but with the combination of her songwriting and pop background her new album has a very unique sound. Though her new album has the most different sound compared to her previous albums there has been an incredible reaction from the fans. 1989 is currently the number one album on itunes and is constantly on replay on my phone.
Swift’s album’s usually have hidden meanings intertwined or something exciting for the listeners to discover. This new album tells the story of her past two years and her ultimate search for her identity. Each song is vital to Swift’s journey while simultaneously connecting with many of her fans around the world.
This is a rundown of Swift’s album 1989.
Welcome to New York
The album begins with Swift’s new move to New York. The change that comes from the big city is scary yet exciting.
Blank Space
Everyone know’s her reputation as a girl on the search for a boy. She references herself as “A nightmare, dressed like a daydream,” ironically poking fun at her love life.
Style
This is one of my personal favorites of Swift’s new album. Through the quirky lyrics she talks about a relationship that seems to go round and round but never quite works out.
Out of the Woods
Swift sings all about loving someone (hinted at Harry Styles) but breaking out of her relationship. The breakup was exhilarating in both a good and bad way.
All You Had To Do was Stay
Once again thought to be about Styles and how he was unwilling to commit to their relationship and how Swift didn’t want to give him a second chance.
Shake it off
This song is all about attitude and how she danced to forget the boy who broke her heart.
I Wish You Would
She is longing for days when her man drove past her street each night. Wishing he would run back to her and things could go back back to the way it was.
Bad Blood
Swift makes friends and also enemies. This songs shows her frustration towards some specific people who tried to ruin her image or career.
Wildest Dreams
Portrays a relationship in which the one condition in her relationship was to see her again, even if only in her wildest dreams. This song has a Lana Del Rey sound to it and is my absolute favorite track on her new album.
How To Get The Girl
This song holds the title of one of the most chipper songs on 1989. All about how if you want to get the girl then say you’ll love her, “For worse or for better … forever and ever.”
This Love
The slowest song of the album has a sound that resembles the ocean. A metaphor that if if a love is true, it will inevitably come back like the tide of an ocean.
I Know Places
This particular song is about the balance of trying to carry on a relationship with the pressure of everyone watching her every move. Swift feels like people are out to get her while she is just wanting to carry on her romance.
Clean
The final song is slow but has probably the most profound meaning to Swift. She loses a boy yet she finds herself, to her this results in self discovery which is everything to her.
This album possesses a little bit of everything but has an overall theme of Swift learning from the high’s and low’s of her life. As a long time Swift fan, 1989 was nothing short of impressive.
