Juniors start preparing for college

Kate Murphy, Newspaper President

It is that time a year when seniors are coming down with senioritis and everyone is starting to crave summer. But for all the juniors out there, summer means starting to think about applying to college and preparing for the last year of high school.

For the past three years, we have constantly been told that we are being prepared for college, that the grades we make get us into college, that high school cottles us and college will not be this forgiving. Well, the time has almost come when we will start to see if what everyone has been telling us the truth.

We are starting to choose our classes for next year and having meetings with our counselors about what our plans are for the future. By this time of the year you are expected to have a taken at least one SAT or ACT, and if you don’t plan to take another test then the scores that you received for either one of those tests are the scores that will be sent to the colleges that you apply to. That in itself is a concept that terrifies me, that the scores you receive on a one test can determine what schools you get into or the amount of scholarship money that you will receive.

The thought of going to college is one that excites me and many other students, but all the details that are required to get there and the things you must do in order to go to college are stressing me out.

So seniors, we will dearly miss you and we envy you for leaving, because us juniors are now starting to realize all the work you put into graduating and we salute you.
