The varsity football team beat undefeated Southlake Carroll 24-17 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington to finish the year 15-1 and as UIL 6A D2 state champions. The Vipers won state for the first time in its 15-year history. The UIL second-place Vipers marching band, cheer squad, sports med, and Legacies dance team made the trip up I-35 to where the Dallas Cowboys play on the Saturday before winter break to meet the Dragons who had blown out most of their opponents on the season.

The student body and community sent the team off on Friday after the half day of exams, gathering around the players and staff before they boarded the bus. Then, the wait until 3 p.m. the following day commenced, but the team showed no sign of nerves. In the first quarter, junior quarterback Miles Teodecki found senior George Farley for an 84-yard score. Though always close, the Vipers played a complete game on both sides of the ball.
Senior Brendan Fournier rushed for 160 yards and tallied two touchdowns, adding to Teodecki’s award-worthy performance at quarterback. While Teodecki was named Offensive MVP, senior safety Scott Buchanan was name Defensive MVP for his stifling passes and making big plays as the clock ticked down. The squad finished the final with 441 total yards on offense, while holding the Dragons to their lowest scoreline of the year.
The players consistently talked up their unity with a team that blended returners and fresh faces. Watch the video above to learn how the underdogs etched their names in the history books.
