School to begin five minutes earlier in 2016
November 20, 2015
The state of Texas has issued that all Leander ISD schools, with the exception of Cedar Park high and middle schools, will start at 8:40 a.m. starting Jan 4th 2016.
High schools across the state noticed that the most absences in the school day are during first period especially within the first five minutes. House Bill 2016 was passed last legislative session and now all students at all public schools are required to receive 75,600 minutes of instruction. Cedar Park high school and all Leander ISD middle schools already meet this requirement.
“I think it is designed to maximize the instruction time.” assistant principal James Larremore said “To make sure that if we move it back five minutes everyone gets here a little earlier.[Which will also] have the true amount of instruction time that is intended for each class, I think that is the motive.”
Elementary schools will now start at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:50 p.m.
