This past Saturday, students from all over the district traveled to Georgetown High School to compete at the UIL District competition. With events ranging from Computer Science to Literary Criticism, Vandegrift excelled at the meet and took home the Academic team award.
Vandegrift left the meet with amazing feats such as placing first, second and third in computer science and math, taking home various medals in writing competitions and science and leaving a mark in almost every category.
“We have been performing really well,” Computer Science teacher Galen Goodreau said. “Its affirmation that the students and coaches have worked hard all year and its starting to pay off.”
The UIL plaque is currently on display in the front office along with past awards from all over school where visitors and students can go see them.
“I was proud of what we accomplished together,” 1st place number sense winner Alex Li said. “It just means more honor and I’m very proud of that.
There are a total of 23 students advancing to region, which will take place April 24 and 25 at UT San Antonio.
“It’s pretty exciting,” 1st place social studies winner Trevor Egerton said. “There’s a lot of smart kids out there, I just hope I can beat them.”
