Choir students dominate region auditions

Choir students auditioned at region last Tuesday with a record-breaking 16 students advancing to pre-area.

“Having so many kids advance is really cool,” choir director Michael Feris said. “Those kids worked really hard and definitely deserve it.”

Additionally seven students received one of the top five chairs with sophomore Erika Myers getting first.

“It was very encouraging and allowed me to feel more confident in myself,” Myers said. “It was also very rewarding to know that all my hard work payed off.”

The students advancing will get the opportunity to perform in the region choir Nov. 15. The students will then be expected to learn new cuts to audition for pre-area the week after Thanksgiving.

“I try and force myself to practice at least 20 minutes everyday,” senior Alex Myers said. “I also drink lots of water and tea to keep my voice healthy.”

The students who advance past pre-area will go on to audition at area and then hopefully state.

“We’ve never had anyone advance past area before, but I have a feeling this might be the year.” Feris said.
