This past Saturday, the Legacies dance team competed at the ATDS Lone Star dance competition at McNeil High School and brought back several awards for their performances.

“It was a learning experience.  It gave us feedback and critiques from judges and it is always great to get their opinion,” Holly Lyons, Legacies director, said.

As a team, the Legacies received Sweepstakes, meaning they received all Division 1 ratings, and the Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence, meaning they got all 90’s and above from all judges on all routines.  Their team jazz took fourth place, team kick took second place, team contemporary won, and they won Best Overall Technique, Best Overall Presentation, Best Overall Precision and Best Overall Choreography.  They placed third in the large team division and placed third out of all 35 teams participating in the competition.

Various solos, duets and ensembles placed well in the competition.  Delaney Bull was first runner up in the large team division for solos.  Trainee Kelly Goetz was first runner up in the JV division solos.

Nine of the Legacy Trainees also went to competition, providing a huge learning experience.

“They were able to see the dance team in action and how we operate at competition,” Lyons said.

The Legacies next competition will be held on Feb. 23 at VHS. A full list of all awards the Legacies received can be found below.
