High schools go through many challenges, and currently Vandegrift is facing the challenge of theft. Can you imagine what it would be like to have one of your most prized possessions stolen from you in just a matter of seconds? An object that holds the majority of your personal information that you would never even think about giving out. It’s an object that you feel lost without. All you hope for is that the thief grows enough integrity to give it back.
Yes, that’s right; I recently had my iPhone 4 stolen, and of course, no one will fess up.
Two weeks go by and you begin to look into buying a new phone with a sense of anger and madness. All you can wonder is how someone couldn’t feel awful after stealing something that people rely so heavily on.
It’s surprising that in an area as well off as Vandegrift, students still feel the need to steal.
I know many of us wish there was some easy solutions to fix this situation we are in as a community. If we as fellow students see someone stealing, I believe that we should be strong enough to tell them that what they are doing is wrong. VHS needs to crack down on theft or it will continue to be a problem.
It’s not just iPhones that are being stolen. It’s purses, wallets, jewelry and any other items that stand out in a dull room.
Currently, the consequences of stealing at VHS are long term ISS and LEO placement. Also, the school police will get involved. Stealing something from someone isn’t worth any of these consequences.
We all want to attend a school where we and our objects feel safe. From here forward, we should all be aware of where we are keeping our processions. The next time you see an object being stolen, stand up and say something.
