When most people think of FFA they think of raising animals and then showcasing them, but there are so many other things you can do.
“A lot of people think that FFA is only showing livestock, but there is so much more,” Katherine Stover, one of the FFA advisers, said.
While FFA does show animals, it can also teach you valuable characteristics. These characteristics can be responsibility, leadership, initiative and many more.
“FFA is a great learning experience to gain leadership qualities and practice responsibility,” Stover said.
FFA also offers Career Development Events, such as Vet Tech and Floral Design.
“These classes give you a glimpse of the career you may want to pursue,” Stover.
Along with learning life skills and testing out careers, FFA also goes to competitions and shows animals. Recently at the County Show, four students showed their animal projects. The senior chapter conducting team got first in district and eleventh in area. Also, the junior creed speaker, Lexi Wilson, got first in district and eighth in area.
“My favorite part is showing. It gives you initiative and teaches you responsibility because it’s your animal and you raise it,” Julia Muccini, freshman, said.
The students involved in FFA all say the people and atmosphere are really fun and kind.
“I enjoy everything about FFA. The competitions are fun and everyone is really nice and friendly,” freshman Lexi Wilson said.
Something unique about FFA is that it’s a student run organization. There are sponsors, but the students decide what they want to do and make most of their own decisions.
“It’s student run, which is really cool for a change,” freshman Julia Muccini, freshman said.
