Portable buildings will be set up outside by the practice field by the end of October to help accommodate the growing student population and will also host ACC classes.
The portables will include enough room for 30+ students per class. Though professors are pleased with the thought of portables, students just can’t seem to get the idea in their head.
“I dislike having to walk outside through either rainy or cold weather and if we have portables then we will have to do that. Plus it’s more convenient to have class in the same building as all of our other ones,” senior Brianna Tongson said.
One of the issues for students is the time it will take to walk to and from the portables. Students are worried about arriving late to class, or getting stuck in school traffic when the bell rings to let students out of school at 3:45. Another issue is the length the portables will be from other classes.
“One thing I feel negative about having portables is that getting to class on time will be challenging because there won’t be enough time to walk all the way out there,” senior Nelishah Dhukka said.
Though the students may not like the idea of having portables, the professors don’t seem to mind.
“I like the thought of portables because ACC classes can be larger than VHS classes (the British literature classes can enroll as many as 36 students) and this will give plenty of room for students. I think some of the portable classroom space will end up being for ACC classes only (at least for now), and this way, teachers may not have to share classrooms,” ACC professor Luanne Preston said.
