Due to complications with contracting and liability concerns from the district, this year’s Foamcoming has been cancelled. Vandegrift Student Council and administrators had intended to feature a foam pit at the Homecoming dance, earning it the nickname ‘Foamcoming.”
“I’m usually not a fan of a non-formal homecoming, but the idea of a foam pit sounded different and fun. I definitely would have gone,” senior Lauren Ethington said.
Unfortunately, this innovative homecoming idea was a little too good to be true. District administrators had several concerns about the contracts for the foam pit, as well as doubts about safety. With these issues arising only a week before the dance, there was no time to find solutions and the foam pit was cancelled.
“I was so pumped for the Foamcoming, I’m really upset that it’s not happening. It was a smart way to get students excited about a casual homecoming dance,” senior Kelly McChesney said.
Although the loss of a foam pit, and a catchy name like Foamcoming, caused widespread disappointment among students, our school administrators were quick with a new idea. Student Council is now sponsoring the Homecoming dance, making it free of charge to all students. The dance will remain in the courtyard this Friday after the football game.
“I’m still upset about Foamcoming being cancelled, but it’s awesome that Homecoming is free now. That’s something a lot of other schools don’t have,” senior Bethany Bridges said.
