From March 20 to March 22 many students competed in the Academic UIL district level. A total of 15 students, who placed in the top three, will move onto the regional level in late April.
“I compete because its lots of fun and I love it,” junior, Coleen Mccool said.
Last week, Conor Mitchell placed first in Calculator Applications, Scott Pollock placed third in Current Issues, Matt Szostack placed second in Computer Science, Danielle Docherty placed third in Editorial Writing and third in News Writing, Taylor Watson placed second in Feature Writing, Ashley Shoemake placed second in Headline Writing, Hadley Sorsby-Jones placed second in Literary Criticism, David Wan placed second in Mathematics, Coleen Mccool placed second in Poetry Interpretation, Zachary Morning placed second in Ready Writing, Nishith Sripathi placed first in Chemistry and first in Science, Ethan Frederic placed second in Science and Brian Talbot placed third in Social Studies.
Regional qualifiers are working hard with the goal of the state competition in mind.
“I’m practicing a lot and looking over my past work and seeing what I can do to improve,” senior, Ashley Shoemake said.
