As Christmas approaches, so does the holly jolly spirit. The Vandegrift High School choir program is putting on a Christmas Holiday concert on Wednesday, December 14th, at 7 PM in the VHS Auditorium. The concert will follow a silent auction that starts at 6 PM, a big fundraiser for the program.
“This concert is unique because we will be singing a mix of holiday pop songs and traditional holiday songs so that we give our audience a diverse show. All of the performers are extremely excited for the upcoming concert, not only because we love to sing, but because the holiday season is sure to get anyone excited. We have been working on our music for quite some time now. We not only want to learn our music, but we want to add musicality to it so that it is interesting and enjoyable for our audience to hear,” sophomore Al Hunter, a member of the A Cappella Choir, said.
The holiday concert will feature the Chorale Women’s, A Cappella and Men’s Choirs along with a performance by the Four Points Middle School choir. It will include many cheerful and traditional Christmas carols such as “Caroling, Caroling” and “We’ll Dress the House”, as well as Latin piece “Ubi Caritas,” a beautiful song referring to spiritual love and charity. The choirs will also sing some of their songs used in UIL competition.
“I’m most excited about how it’s all going to come together. Varsity Choir and Men’s Choir are combining on a few of the songs, so getting the chance to sing with them should be awesome and help us prepare for UIL competitions in which we all compete together,” junior Lauren Goulet, a member of the Chorale Women’s Choir, said.
Before the concert the choir program will hold a silent auction, auctioning off various baskets and donated items. Each class made their own themed gift basket as well as donated certain items to the auction.
“We are very excited for [the concert]. We know we will put on a great concert for the holidays and for our audience. We are also very excited for the success of the silent auction, as it should be a great fundraiser for our program,” junior Nicole Martinez, a member of the Chorale Women’s Choir, said.
