Wednesday’s annual community pep rally will be held at Monroe Stadium at 7pm. The Vandegrift tradition aims to bring families and students together to celebrate and support our high school and middle school athletes and fine arts students.
“This is a tradition we started 3 years ago to involve the entire community in kicking off the new year,” principal Charlie Little said.
The pep rally will feature performances from the Legacy dance team, the Vandegrift cheerleading program and the marching band, who will be joined by the Canyon Ridge and Four Points bands. Team captains and coaches will speak briefly, and the Pop Warner athletes will be recognized.
“You can expect to see a PACKED house cheering on thousands of students. . .I cannot think of a better way to spend the evening,” Jeremy Spicer, band director said.
The community pep rally serves as the official kick off of the 2011 football season, the first season that the Vipers will field seniors.
“Well, if you ask the football coach, football season is pretty important!” Coach Sanders said. “Nothing brings a community together like a varsity football game. A football game showcases the dance teams, band, cheer and football teams and everyone shows up to cheer those groups on. But this event is also about celebrating all fall sports.”
The varsity team will take on Lanier at Lanier on Thursday night at 7:30, and everyone is encouraged to attend. Tickets will be on sale in the front office and at the door of the game.
